How to use your iPhone as a Webcam for Your Mac.

Use your iPhone as your Webcam

Are you sick of using poor quality web cams? Let’s be honest, most webcams claim to be HD but look like the quality of a potato.

Why can’t you just use the fancy cameras in your iphone instead? Well, now you can, and I’m going to show you how.

Before we get started there are a few things you need before using your iPhone as your webcam.

Firstly, you need to have IOS 16 on your iPhone, and Mac OS Ventura.

Secondly, yes this does only work between Apple devices, so no androids or Windows PC’s I’m afraid.

On the upside, using your iPhone as a webcam gives you the quality you need to upgrade your game, whether it’s for video calls, virtual meetings, livestreaming or recording videos.

Getting set up is fairly simple.

Step 1 – make sure your mac and iPhone are on the same icloud account

Step 2 – Make sure your mac and iPhone are on the same Wifi network

Step 3 – position your iPhone close to your mac

Step 4 – Make sure your iphone is locked

Your mac should automatically detect your iPhone and allow you to use it as a webcam.

Apple show the phone as needing to be very close to your mac to enable this to work, but in my testing I have found that as long as the phone is within 2m of the mac it should work, although you may experience some minor issues with lag so best to keep it as close as possible.

You’re not just limited to facetiming. I have found that you can use the iPhone as a webcam for various video applications.

I have used it a lot for Teams meetings and even added it as a video capture source in OBS to record videos.

Using your iPhone as a webcam greatly levels up your content creation game and gives you a reliable device to record or stream in high quality!
